How to use and dosage

Tetracycline tablets are taken orally with a large amount of water or other liquid. The average recommended dose for adults is 0.25-0.5 g four times a day or 0.5-1 g twice a day (every 12 hours). The maximum dose is 4 g per day.

  • For acne: the recommended dose is from 500 mg to 2 grams per day for 21 days. Then the dose is gradually reduced to a maintenance dose of 125 mg to 1 g.
  • Brucellosis: 500 mg every 6 hours for 21 days. At the same time, the appointment of streptomycin in therapeutic and age-related dosages is recommended.
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea: Starting dose of 1500 mg (1.5 g). subsequently 500 mg every 6 hours for 4 days.
  • Syphilis: Early 500 mg every 6 hours for 15 days. Late 30 days.

  • uncomplicated rectal, endocervical and urethral infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis: 500 mg 4 times a day for at least one week;

  • listeriosis: 200-300 mg 4 times a day for 7-10 days;
  • chlamydia: 1500–2000 mg per day for 10 days (with fresh forms) and 15–20 days (with chronic and complicated forms);
  • actinomycosis: 3000 mg per day in the first 10 days of treatment, then 500 mg 4 times a day for 18 days;
  • Lyme disease (only at an early stage): 1000-1500 mg per day for 10-14 days;
  • ornithosis: 500 mg 4 times a day for 7-14 days;
  • rickettsiosis: 800–1200 mg per day for 8–10 days;
  • tularemia: 1500–2000 mg per day, treatment is continued for another 5–7 days after normalization of temperature;
  • plague: up to 6000 mg per day, after improvement, the dose is reduced to 2000 mg per day until normalization of body temperature (but not less than 3 days);
  • persons in contact with the patient should undergo a preventive course (300 mg 4 times a day);
  • frambesia: 500 mg 4 times a day for 14 days;
  • acne: 500–2000 mg per day in divided doses;
  • when the condition improves (usually after 3 weeks), it is necessary to gradually reduce the dose to a maintenance dose equal to 100-1000 mg per day. Adequate remission of acne is achieved with intermittent treatment or the use of the drug every other day.

 

Side effects
